Depolluting our skin without causing pollution in turn

We don't believe there would be any point in producing a depolluting skincare product if it were made with harmful substances that would pollute the environment during its life cycle.

Pollution and skin

Particulate matter refers not to a gas, but to physical particles suspended in the air. These include fine particles measuring 2.5 nanometres in size. This is 40 times smaller than the size of a pore in your skin. Particulate matter is produced by the combustion of firewood and diesel, and is emitted by some industrial smokestacks. It carries benzo[a]pyrene, a carcinogenic organic compound.
As well as respiratory problems, PM 2.5 causes serious skin damage by creating permanent inflammation in keratinocytes, the cells that make up skin and hair. Benzo[a]pyrene binds with AhR, a protein contained in skin cells. When this happens, the protein lights an inflammatory “fire” in the skin cell. This causes sensitisation in the skin, which becomes irritable, red or dull, and uncomfortable. In extreme cases, acne and spots can appear and skin ages more quickly.

Rhamnophénol®

Le Rhamnophénol® is an extremely pure, natural compound, extracted without organic solvents from a rare Alpine plant, Saxifraga rotundifolia. The wild plant has been domesticated and is now grown, without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, in the Valais, in Switzerland.
Rhamnophénol® inhibits the action of two powerful pro-inflammatory mediators in skin cells: TNF alpha and interleukins IL31. These are activated by fine particle pollution and light an inflammatory “fire” in keratinocytes.
This rhamnosiled compound has a special shape that allows it to bind to the AhR protein contained in skin cells and prevent the inflammatory reaction triggered by the benzo[a]pyrene carried by PM 2.5 particulate matter.

Scientific studies

The efficacy of Purally’s formulas has been established by clinical tests conducted in laboratories on real skin implants. We work with the Bio EC laboratory, which is an independent French research centre set up in 1998. It specialises in studying the efficacy of cosmetic and dermatological products.

Active ingredients

All our formulas are designed, formulated, tested and made in France according to the principles of “clean beauty” with a minimum of 95% natural ingredients. We carefully select the active ingredients, and then add just the right amount to achieve optimum efficacy of their properties in a cosmetic formula.

Beta-cyclodextrin

This naturally derived compound encapsulates other molecules like a cage. Included in Purally’s PM 2.5 Cleanser, it traps the toxic pollutant compounds that accumulate on the skin’s surface, which can then be rinsed away. This ability to trap toxic substances explains why it is used by industrial manufacturers to rid water of pollution and decontaminate air.

Vitamin A

By increasing cell renewal in the epidermis, natural Vitamin A, also known as retinol, ensures the quality of this skin layer that’s on the front line with the outside world, and therefore with pollution. It also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibres, as well as the molecules in the skin matrix.

Vitamin B3

Vitamin B3, the active form of niacinamide, improves skin quality and appearance. It smooths rough areas and reduces redness. Vitamin B3 lowers skin sensitivity by reducing sensations of discomfort, inflammation, and irritation.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C, or ascorbic acid, is a potent antioxidant that protects cells from free radicals and fades dark spots. It brightens skin, refines its texture, makes the complexion radiant again and creates a healthy glow. This antioxidant substance is crucial in the fight against damage caused by pollution and skin cell oxidation.

Vitamin E

Naturally derived Vitamin E protects cells from free radicals. As a moisturising agent, it also improves skin elasticity and softness.

Hyaluronic acid

Our low molecular weight hyaluronic acid is absorbed by the epidermis, where it helps maintain hydration by trapping water and locking it in. This helps restore skin firmness.

Glycerine

Vegetable glycerine maintains the skin’s water content with moisturising and softening properties.

Plum oil

Extracted without solvents or chemicals, plum oil is high in oleic acid. It reinforces the hydrolipidic barrier and makes skin softer. It is high in Vitamin E, giving it the ability to neutralise free radicals.

Our ingredients charter

We use manufacturing processes that respect the environment, employing ingredients derived from nature that are kind to skin. As a result, we exclude the following toxic or controversial ingredients:
  • phthalates
  • parabens
  • phenoxyethanol
  • BHA
  • BHT
  • PEGs
  • synthetic fragrances
  • silicones
  • sulphates
  • aluminium
  • mineral oils
  • nanoparticles
In addition, we do not test our products on animals.

Packaging

Our products’ primary packaging containers are made either of glass or of plant-based plastic made from sugar cane, meaning they can be recycled. The secondary packaging, which covers the primary packaging, is made of cardboard made from FSC-certified forest wood. The inks used are plant-based and our printer has the Imprim’Vert seal of approval.
Whenever possible, we use airless packaging (vacuum packing) to protect the products from air and light. When the products come into contact with air, they oxidise and the active ingredients they contain lose their benefits. The products come in a vacuum-packed pouch and therefore are fully preserved. This packaging also allows the product to be dispensed in just the right amount and is very hygienic. There are no propellant gases or waste, as the product is dispensed practically in its entirety.
